Requirements
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Bus Mechanic with subject matter expertise
Must be able to work a part-time schedule including Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays
Knowledge of state DOT bus inspection procedures
Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical breakdowns and implement optimal repair solutions
Experience with troubleshooting, charging, repairing, and replacing A/C and ventilation systems
Expert knowledge of electrical and pneumatic (air) systems; must have a step-by-step diagnostic approach
Valid CDL B license (preferred)
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and preventive services
Conduct bus inspections, safety checks, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems
Use vehicle diagnostic computer systems to assess and assign needed repairs
Troubleshoot and repair diesel internal combustion engines
Respond to and coordinate emergency roadside service calls
Lead and supervise team members to ensure efficient workflow
Keep accurate maintenance and service records
Conduct training for new hires and existing staff on equipment and safety procedures
Partner with equipment suppliers for in-service training on advanced techniques
Assist in the recruitment and evaluation of shop personnel
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with professionalism, tact, and courtesy
Perform additional duties as assigned
Knowledge Required
Electrical systems and troubleshooting expertise is essential
Proficient with tools and methods for vehicle overhauls and mechanical repairs
Strong grasp of internal combustion engine mechanics (gas & diesel)
Understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems
Familiar with DOT regulations and health & safety standards
Ability to maintain detailed records
Comfortable with basic math related to the role
Pay: $30–$35/hour (Negotiable based on experience)
