The Opportunity: We are seeking a highly skilled and career-minded Diesel Technician with 8 years of dedicated experience to join our bustling New York City team. If you possess a keen troubleshooting mind, a passion for continuous improvement, and the expertise to keep our diverse fleet of coach buses running flawlessly, we want to hear from you. What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostics, maintenance, and expert repairs on heavy-duty diesel engines and all coach bus systems (including electrical, air brake, HVAC, hydraulic, and suspension).
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and software to efficiently troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and electronic system issues.
  • Conduct thorough preventative maintenance inspections and ensure strict adherence to all Department of Transportation (DOT) and internal company compliance standards.
  • Coordinate and respond promptly to service calls for emergency breakdowns, providing crucial roadside support as needed.
  • Contribute to team development by assisting in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of assigned junior technicians and new hires.
  • Participate actively in developing and delivering maintenance and safety training programs for all relevant personnel.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed repair records and service logs, and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members on all vehicle statuses.
  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements within the shop, embracing new technologies and repair techniques.
  • Perform additional duties as required to ensure the continuous operational readiness and safety of our fleet.

What We're Looking For (Qualifications):

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 8 years of direct experience in diesel engine and heavy-duty vehicle repair, preferably with Van Hool coach buses.
    • Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex electrical and pneumatic (air) systems.
    • Proven ability to interpret technical manuals, work orders, and electronic schematics.
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Valid CDL Class A or B license (Required).
    • Certification from a nationally accredited mechanical/electrical institution (a plus).
    • Formal training (e.g., military, vocational school) and/or ASE certifications (especially Heavy Duty Truck T-series, Transit Bus H-series) or EPA 608/609 certification (a plus).
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a systematic, step-by-step troubleshooting mentality.
    • Strong understanding of electronic systems and their integration with mechanical components.
    • Proactive, curious, and eager to learn and adapt to changing vehicle technology and updates.
    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
    • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and squat for prolonged periods.
    • Capable of safely lifting up to 50 pounds independently.
    • Ability to reach overhead and work with hands and arms in various positions.
    • Awareness and ability to safely handle hazardous waste.
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule:

  • Expected 40 to 50 hours per week.
  • Must be available to work on weekends and holidays.
  • Must be available for overnight shifts as required.
