We currently operate in New York City, London and Philadelphia, and will be launching in Washington DC this summer.  Future expansion targets include San Francisco, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago,Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Dubai, Istanbul and many others. We are looking for a strategic and experienced General Counsel who will build and lead our legal team and significantly contribute to our company’s expansion and growth. You will support and be part of company leadership in making critical legal and business decisions aligned with company values, and shaping how TopView operates its business. The right candidate is a performance driven professional with exceptional leadership and project management skills, a revenue oriented mindset, and an extensive understanding of the importance of automation in a cost-effective operation. Base salary $250,000 - $300,000 + bonus

Note: This is a full-time, on-site position working at our new office location: 11 E 44th St, 6th Fl, New York, NY 10017.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-depth, timely, and business-focused legal advice, analysis, and strategic insights to the senior management team.
  • Own all aspects of the company’s legal function including all agreements, litigation matters, licensing, legal risk management.
  • Serve as a key legal advisor for senior management on strength of claims and defenses, dispute avoidance and resolution.
  • Build and lead a high performing legal team.
  • Ensure all agreements are completed in a timely manner, accurately reflect the company's product and operations, and protect the company in all aspects.
  • Develop appropriate strategies and action plans to resolve unfavorable trends related to our products, sales, and operations; analyze claims and formulate litigation.
  • Conduct fact investigations in connection with litigation and compliance matters.
  • Manage and collaborate with outside counsel.
  • Draft and edit legal papers, including pleadings, briefs, declarations, discovery demands and responses; respond to third-party subpoenas; manage and supervise e-discovery.
  • Represent the company and senior management in judicial and administrative proceedings.
  • Provide legal guidance and support to all departments within the organization, including Sales, Product, Operations, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, and others.
  • Be responsible for growing and protecting the company's intellectual property and licensing portfolio.
  • Maintain knowledge of the company's operations and products, understand data security, and privacy process issues to support negotiations.
  • Negotiate major, complex, and non-standard agreements.
  • Draft terms of use, product policies, and disclosures.
  • Remain up-to-date on relevant industry laws and regulations and consumer protections.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree required from ABA accredited law school and admission to the New York Bar.
  • Minimum 12 years experience in legal positions in a law firm or a company's in-house legal department.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a law firm.
  • At least 5 years of experience as in-house general counsel.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, local, and international law.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly revenue oriented and performance driven.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, and the ability to independently prioritize multiple simultaneous projects with different deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.
